Important Uses of Switchgear

Switchgear is used both to de-energize equipment to allow work to be done and to clear faults downstream. This type of equipment is important because it is directly connected to the dependability of the electricity supply. One of the basic functions of switchgear is protection, which is interruption of short-circuit and overload fault currents whereas maintaining service to unaffected circuits.

Functions of Switchgear


There are two systems or panels that are utilized to redistribute power or electric current to other equipment or circuits. One is the switchboard and the other is switchgear. Switchgear is a big switch used to turn on or cut off the power in different parts of an electricity distribution network. You utilize switchgear to isolate a fault in the network to minimize the effects of interruptions. Once a fault has been repaired, the switchgear is operated to turn the power back on.
